To delete large amounts of emails in Gmail efficiently, follow these steps:

Use search filters

To find specific emails you want to delete, use search filters like:

  • By sender: from: example@example.com
  • By size: larger: 5M (for emails larger than 5MB)
  • By date: before: 2020/01/01 (for emails before January 1, 2020)
  • Combine filters to narrow down your results, like larger:5M before:2020/01/01.

Select all emails

After performing the search, click the checkbox at the top left to select all emails on the current page. A message will appear that says "Select all conversations that match this search." Click this link to select all relevant emails, not just those on the current page.

Delete emails

Click the trash can icon to delete all selected emails. This moves them to the Trash.

CAUTION: THIS STEP MAY NOT BE REVERSED AND YOU WILL LOSE ALL OF THE EMAILS FOREVER

Empty the trash

Go to the Trash folder and click on "Empty Trash now" to permanently delete the emails. Note that emails in the Trash are automatically deleted after 30 days if you don’t do this manually.
