Stopping spam emails in Gmail involves a few key steps to ensure your inbox stays clean:
Mark as spam
When you receive an unwanted email, don’t just delete it—mark it as spam. Open the email, click the three dots in the top right corner, and select “Report spam.” Gmail will move the email to the Spam folder and learn to filter similar emails in the future.
Block senders
For persistent spam from specific addresses, block the sender. Open the email, click the three dots next to the reply button, and choose “Block Sender.” This will prevent emails from that sender from appearing in your inbox.
Unsubscribe
Legitimate emails often have an “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom. Clicking this link will remove you from their mailing list, reducing spam.
Use filters
Create filters to automatically delete or archive unwanted emails. Go to “Settings” > “Filters and Blocked Addresses” > “Create a new filter.” Set criteria and choose actions like “Delete” or “Skip the Inbox.” These steps will significantly reduce spam and keep your Gmail inbox tidy.
This is often a laborious process, but it can be greatly streamlined by using an application like AgainstData to one-click unsubscribe and bulk delete unwanted emails.
